Meet the Team

Shamsia Mohammadi- Lead Tailor for the MOTG X GUANTANA project

shamsia@movementontheground.com

Originally from Afghanistan, Shamsia brings both incredible skill and inspiring strength to the heart of this project. Her hands tell stories—of her homeland, of the journey she’s taken, and of the remarkable transformation of discarded textiles into powerful garments of hope and resilience.

As Lead Tailor, she leads production with precision, creativity, and heart, setting the standard for craftsmanship and collaboration. She is living proof that refugee women don’t need charity—they need opportunity. And when given that, they don’t just contribute—they lead.

Efstratios Nakis - Designer for Guanatana

Efstratios doesn’t just design clothes—he challenges norms. As the creative force behind GUANTANA, he breaks boundaries one stitch at a time, designing wearable art that tells stories of resilience, culture, and transformation.

His work is rooted in the belief that creativity exists in everyone, and that design should be a process of collaboration, not hierarchy. By working hand-in-hand with refugee artisans, Efstratios turns discarded materials into powerful fashion statements and helps unlock the untapped talent in overlooked communities.

Nefeli Voulieri - Integration Coordinator for Movement on the Ground

nefeli@movementontheground.com

Nefeli is driven by a clear mission: to build real bridges between displaced people and host communities through employment and meaningful collaboration. As a Greek integration coordinator, she works on the frontlines—where cultures meet, and where change happens slowly but powerfully.

She and Efstratios form the bridge between design and integration, ensuring that every person involved in the MOTG x GUANTANA project is not just participating, but thriving. Her work ensures that fashion becomes a tool for dignity and sustainability.

Maria Giulia Casini - Head of Operations for Movement on the Ground

maria@movementontheground.com

Maria is a bold thinker, a doer, and a firm believer that meaningful solutions to humanitarian challenges must be rooted in disrupting the systems that exclude, marginalize, and oversimplify.

At the core of her work lies a deep conviction: refugees are not a crisis to manage—they are central to the solution. In a world where economic systems prioritize profit, the environment is neglected, and displaced people are seen as burdens, Maria asks a radical question: What if we flipped the system entirely?

Through MOTG x GUANTANA, she is building a model of circular sustainability—where upcycled fashion becomes a tool for economic inclusion, environmental justice, and social transformation. This is more than a product line—it’s a blueprint for a better future.
